Beginning May 13, 2015, embark on a journey and immerse yourself in the flavor of the Old West at the fifth annual series of Cartwright’s Sonoran Ranch House History Dinners presented by Sanderson Lincoln. There are no better story spinners than our own Marshall Trimble, Bob “Boze” Bell, Wyatt Earp, Dolan Ellis, and Lance Polingyouma, and there is no better place to fill your belly while getting an earful than at Cartwright’s, where the accolades are piled higher than the tall tales you’ll hear.

Each History Dinner, held every other Wednesday, May 13 through Oct. 28, begins with no-host cocktails in the award-winning, Cartwright’s Sonoran Ranch House Ranch Room. Three courses of signature modern ranch cuisine are specially prepared by top-ranking chef Brett Vibber and talented pastry chef Amanda Crick to complement each evening’s theme. Enjoy delicious inspired Southwestern fare and take a trip through history as these entertaining raconteurs skillfully weave words, sing songs and spin yarns about the colorful days of old in Arizona’s Sonoran foothills. Sit back and relax as you’re regaled by stories of the Old West. Follow along with escapades and shenanigans; from Billy the Kid to Doc Holiday, from train robbers to gunslingers.

About the Speakers
History is in the making at Cartwright’s Sonoran Ranch House, where the past and the present mesh seamlessly in a tradition of Western hospitality and tasty chow that would make any gunfighter come out of hiding. Cartwright’s Sonoran Ranch House History Dinners presented by Sanderson Lincoln have become favorites in the last four years, and they are part of a long line of heritage in the north Valley.

Named after a pioneering ranching family that raised cattle in the area for three generations, Cartwright’s was designed to evoke the hospitality of the original family ranch house built in the early 1900s. Rustic wooden beams and tables repurposed from vintage boxcars embellish the Ranch Room, along with a stone fireplace and small wooden stage.

This year, Cartwright’s Arizona History Dinners presented by Sanderson Lincoln will feature presentations by five of the state’s most popular speakers:

  • Bob “Boze” Bell—Back by popular demand for the fifth year, this long-time Cave Creek resident, executive editor of True West magazine and respected Arizonan historian and artist will enlighten folks with new and original stories, including “Wyatt Earp in Hollywood: The Untold Story”, “A New Look at Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War”, and “The 66 Kid: Looking Back at What Makes Route 66 So Memorable”.
  • Marshall Trimble—This multi-talented “Ask the Marshall” columnist, humorist, and Arizona State Historian returns to paint a picture of Cave Creek’s original Cartwright family, as well as present “The Butterfield Overland Mail: Road to Destiny”, “Coronado’s Children: Arizona’s Lost Mines”, “Practicing Law in the Town Too Tough to Die”, and “The Train Robbers: A Tough Way to Make a Living”.
  • Wyatt Earp—A true living relative and tribute to his famous namesake, Wyatt Earp has shared nationwide and international performances of his one-man plays. A member of the Arizona Gunfighters, he will be detailing the fascinating stories of “The Gentleman Doc Holliday” and “Wyatt Earp: A Life on the Frontier”.
  • Lance Polingyouma—This project recorder for the Hopi Migration Project and a Hopi cultural interpreter will share what he knows best, the stories and philosophy of the Hopi culture, as well as the petroglyphs, songs, crafts and practices that make the Hopi culture so interesting to explore in “A History of the Native Southwest”.
  • Dolan Ellis—Arizona’s official State Balladeer for over 45 years is a crooner of tunes and so much more. A Grammy Award winner, he has been inducted into the Arizona Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame and played major venues in the U.S. and abroad. His engaging presentations combine live musical performances of Arizona songs and stories with a large screen photography presentation from five decades of Arizona adventures. He will recount a lifetime of experiences in “Arizona Characters I have Known” and describe Arizona’s unique history in “The Arizona Way”.
